Wildfire updates: Goose Creek Fire in Box Elder County 70 percent contained

SALT LAKE CITY — The Goose Creek Fire in Box Elder County is 70 percent contained, the Cove Creek Fire is 56 percent contained and the Middle Canyon Fire in Tooele County is at 90 percent containment Thursday, according to fire officials.

Crews continue to fight several wildfires across the state.

Goose Creek Fire in Box Elder County is 70 percent contained

The Goose Creek Fire, burning near the Utah-Nevada border in Box Elder County, is 70 percent contained as of Thursday evening, Utah fire officials report. The fire is burning at just under 124,000 acres, or about 194 square miles, officials said. The fire experienced minimal growth on Thursday, and 487 firefighters are assigned.

Firefighters continue to make good progress on the #GooseCreekFire, increasing containment to 70%. Minimal acreage growth occurred today, for a total burned acreage of 123,975 acres. 487 personnel are currently assigned to the incident.

Cove Creek Fire in Millard, Beaver counties is 56 percent contained

The lightning-caused Cove Creek Fire in Millard and Beaver counties has burned 2,620 acres and is 56 percent contained.

Middle Canyon Fire in Tooele County is 90 percent contained

The human-caused Middle Canyon Fire in Tooele County is 90 percent contained, according to a tweet from Utah Fire Info.

The fire began Thursday, July 26, but the exact cause is still under investigation. Those with any information can call the Tooele County Sheriff's Office at 435-882-5600.

Goose Creek Fire in Box Elder County is 55 percent contained

The lightning-caused Goose Creek Fire in Box Elder County has burned 122,916 acres and is at 55 percent containment, according to a tweet from Utah Fire Info. 483 fire personnel were working to fight the blaze Thursday.

Nevada's China Jim Fire and the Goose Creek Fire combined Sunday evening, forming a fire that is threatening houses in nearby Grouse Creek, Box Elder County. The Goose Creek Fire began Thursday, July 26.
