COALVILLE, Summit County — A 62-year-old man from Magna was hospitalized in serious condition Saturday after he was stabbed in a lodge near the Utah-Wyoming border, officials said.

The stabbing happened about 9:45 a.m. at the Bear River Lodge, near the Mirror Lake Highway on the north side of the Uinta Mountains, Summit County Sheriff's Office Lt. Andrew Wright said.

Though Wright was not sure exactly what caused the stabbing, witnesses told police two people inside the store bumped into each other, and that led to an altercation.

At some point, one of the men took out a knife and stabbed the other man in the neck, Wright said. Several witnesses were able to detain the attacker while waiting for police to arrive.

The injured person was transported to Evanston Regional Hospital in Wyoming, and then airlifted to a Salt Lake area hospital, Wright said.

Charles Ryan Hendricks, 45, of Evanston, was booked into the Summit County Jail for investigation of attempted murder. Police have released the name of the man who was stabbed.
