WEST VALLEY CITY — Three teenagers were taken into custody by police Monday following a hit-and-run crash and a chase with police.
Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash near 4701 S. 3600 West, said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku. An officer arrived to find two wrecked cars, and learned that a third vehicle was leaving the scene, she said.
Witnesses pointed officers to a fleeing white pickup truck. During the ensuing chase, officers deployed a spike strip at 3200 West and 3650 South, Vainuku said. The spikes deflated the truck's front right tire, but the pickup continued into Salt Lake City where officers eventually stopped it.
Two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old were taken into custody for questioning. One of the older boys, the driver who was reported as being a runaway, was booked into juvenile detention, Vainuku said.
