SALT LAKE CITY — Alex Boyé will replace Christopher Jackson as the guest artist for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Pioneer Day concert July 14 -15 due to "unavoidable and unanticipated" scheduling conflicts with Jackson's current TV series, according to an announcement from the choir Thursday.

Jackson, well known for his role as George Washington in the Broadway musical "Hamilton," is "sincerely disappointed" and looks forward to collaborating with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the future, choir officials said.

Boyé, who was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir until 2014, was recently named as the 2017 Rising Artist of the Year in a contest sponsored by Pepsi and Hard Rock Cafe. The singer was also awarded YouTube's Cover Artist of the Year in 2014 for his songs and videos, which have garnered over 400 million views on YouTube.

Boyé is known for covering popular songs and infusing them with African-inspired lyrics and melodies. He has collaborated with other artists as well, including Utahns Lindsey Stirling and The Piano Guys.

Boyé will perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for its annual "Music for a Summer Evening" held in conjunction with Pioneer Day celebrations on July 14 and 15 at 8 p.m.

Free tickets for the concerts are required and have all been distributed. However, hopefuls are welcome to stand by for last-minute seating each evening, the choir said. The standby line will form at the north gate on Temple Square at 6:30 p.m.
