Saturday was a very wet day for people out and about in the Salt Lake Valley and for a few who'd planned to stay inside during the storm.
Some people had fun with it, but the weather caused headaches for others. West Jordan firefighters say there was scattered flooding throughout the city, much of it from clogged storm drains.
The Zander family has grown used to puddles of water over the years. They've learned that first comes the rain, then the flood, then the firefighters and neighbors with sandbags.
Nancy Zander said, "My neighbors helped try to dump out the water from the windows before they blew out, but we couldn't keep up."
The family was still drying things out from a storm last week when today's rain came. A culvert in their West Jordan backyard backed up again, sending two inches of water into the basement.
Nearby, Mike Reed's buddies underestimated a flooded baseball field. The water covering it was wide but not deep. "We hit a snag when he hit a sandbar in the middle of the lake, less of a sandbar, more of a hill in the park," Reed said.
But when it comes to an afternoon of free fun, Reed says it's hard to go wrong. "Sure you can drive to a legit lake if you want to spend the gas money. But with the economy the way it is, we take lakes wherever we can get them," he said.
