(KSL News) A hit and run accident resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer.
Last night, Salt Lake City Police say 34-year-old Jose Israel Calix fled the scene of an accident at 130 S. State St.
A witness contacted police and followed Calix through the Avenues. Calix was eventually stopped by an officer a few blocks from the accident at 300 S. State St.
During the stop the officer determined Calix was intoxicated and in searching him found approximately 20 cocaine-filled balloons.
A few minutes later, Calix lost consciousness and collapsed. Police say most likely due to an overdose.
Calix was taken to the hospital and then to jail on charges of driving under the influence, hit and run and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
