WEST JORDAN — One of Adult Probation and Parole's most wanted fugitives was arrested Monday after crashing into an innocent bystander and trying to hide in a homeowner's backyard.

Adult Probation and Parole and the U.S. Marshals Service had been looking for Adam Haslam, 32, of Centerville, for a little while, said AP&P director Jim Hudspeth.

After receiving a tip, officials spotted Haslam on Tuesday afternoon in a car in West Jordan, Hudspeth said.

Because Haslam has a history of fleeing from police and carrying weapons, authorities used a helicopter to try to follow him, officials said. However, Haslam spotted the helicopter and either recognized it as law enforcement or became "paranoid," authorities stated, and increased his speed.

The vehicle that he and another man were in crashed into another vehicle, Hudspeth said. Injuries to all involved were minor, he said.

Haslam and Anthony Barros, 31, of Provo, who was also wanted, got out of the car after the crash and ran. They were captured a short time later hiding in a backyard, Hudspeth said.

Haslam was taken back to the Utah State Prison. Barros was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
