TAYLORVILLE — Police on Friday identified a man who was struck and killed by a pickup truck early Thursday morning.

Police said Christopher Horan, 42, of Springville, was walking in the middle of the road near 5400 S. Ridgecrest Drive (3400 West) around 2 a.m. when a truck traveling east on 5400 South struck him.

Horan was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still unsure why the man was in the middle of the road at the time.

"There's no crosswalk there. There's no intersection where the accident occurred. Why the individual was out in the road, that's one issue that's going to be there," Unified police Lt. Manfred Lassig said Thursday.

The crash remains under investigation.
