OREM — Weather-related power outages have left several hundred homeowners across the Wasatch Front without power and even created roadway headaches throughout the areas affected.
A little more than 500 customers in areas of Orem, Holladay, Pleasant Grove and Salt Lake City were without power as of 7:15 p.m., according to Rocky Mountain Power spokesperson Paul Murphy.
The outages in those areas began around 6:30 p.m., Murphy said. He said that the estimated time that power would be restored ranged from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
In Orem, traffic light issues began being reported just after 6:30 p.m. and included traffic lights out on State Street, which Orem police Lt. Craig Martinez said is the city’s biggest roadway.
“What it has done is create a big mess throughout the whole city with all of our controlled intersections — some of the lights are out and some of the lights aren’t cycling, meaning one direction is always green while the other direction is always red," he said.
Martinez said both Rocky Mountain Power and the Utah Department of Transportation were working to fix the issue. However, the department tweeted that the 1600 North and 800 North were the only intersections that are still having issues as of 7:35 p.m.
Martinez said Orem police were assigning officers to direct traffic at all of the affected areas.
“We’re doing everything we can,” he said.
Pleasant Grove police posted on social media a similar problem with traffic lights — with "multiple" traffic lights on State Street and Pleasant Grove Blvd. not cycling correctly.
Please drive with courtesy and caution!" the agency said in the post, along with that officials were working to fix the problem.
