Dixie State beats Western New Mexico 35-3

(ST. GEORGE, Utah - Sept 6, 2008) The Dixie State College football team played host to Western New Mexico University (0-1, 0-0 RMAC) this evening in a non-conference tilt at Hansen Stadium. 3,111 people watched as the Dixie State football team rebound from last weeks home loss with a 35-3 dominating win.

The Dixie State (1-1, 0-1 GNAC) defense was the story this week, scoring a variety of ways recording a safety and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. The defense added 6 sacks, an interception, and four forced fumbles. Defensive lineman Chad Frank (Jr., Albuquerque, NM) collected two sacks, seven tackles, three of those for a loss, and a forced fumble that led to a touchdown. Dixie State dominated the Western New Mexico front line, allowing only 74 yards of total offense.

On the other hand, the Dixie State offense set a team record since making the transition to DII with 404 yards of total offense. Led by QB Dexter Hill's (Sr., Pocatello, ID) 243 yards (22-35) passing and 2 TD's. His favorite target was Kyser Christensen (So., Boise, ID) who caught 7 balls for 118 yards and a touchdown.

Dixie State will travel for the first road game of the year with a non-conference game against in state opponent Weber State University. The game is scheduled for 6:05 PM kickoff in Ogden.

NOTES: Saturday night was Military appreciation night at Hansen Stadium. All military personnel were allowed free entrance to the game. Dixie State LB Chris Timo (Fr., Santa Clara, UT) was honored for his 14 months on service in the Middle East.
