Basketball, specifically basketball courts, will be front and center tonight before the Layton City Council. The issue is whether you can build one on your own property.
The city must decide whether to make official what has long been common practice.
"We're putting into law basically the practice that's been in place for years and years here in Layton city, where recreational equipment like a basketball standard, playing surface, would be allowed in residential districts," said Community Development Director Bill Wright.

He said one resident filed a complaint about a neighbor's court, complaining of too much noise.
Layton already regulates the placement of swimming pools and tennis courts.
