LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — The Utah Transit Authority is soliciting public input on new proposals for ski bus service in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons.
The agency, in conjunction with area ski resort partners, has identified a number of concerns regarding current ski bus service, including limited parking for ski bus riders outside the two canyons, overcrowded ski buses, no midday ski bus service and inconsistent service frequency, which promotes traffic congestion in the canyons, according to the UTA website.
The agency has developed a proposal to address the concerns and mitigate the impacts to ski bus service by increasing ski bus travel to 135 trips daily, seven days per week — a 35 percent hike over current levels. Service frequency would jump to 15-minute intervals during peak traffic times in the canyons and 30-minute service during the day, seven days-a-week, the website states.
The plan would also increase the number of ski bus hours, as well as increase the number of available parking stalls for ski bus riders by 11 percent. Some ski bus connections would also be rerouted to serve the Murray Central TRAX/FrontRunner Station and the Bingham Junction TRAX Station in Midvale.
