Big oil is giving a big chunk of change to the South Davis Metro Fire Agency; $400,000 to be exact.
The money from Holly Refinery is paying for a mobile command center, which is basically a big tractor-trailer full of computers, communications equipment, and so on.
"Not necessarily just working with the refinery, but in all the emergencies we respond on, this will allow us to get together and manage the incident together," said South Davis Fire Chief Jim Rampton.
He says the fire this week in Draper is a case in point where a number of different fire departments work together.
Police can use it, too.
"We have agreements with everyone around us. If this needs to go somewhere, yes, it definitely will go," Rampton said.
It's part of a public-private partnership in the community.
Lynn Keddington, general manager of the Holly Woods Cross Refinery, said, "We recognize the value of community partnerships and are doing all that we can to be a good neighbor."
Over the years, the refinery has made financial contributions to other community events and paid for area teachers to receive training.
