SALT LAKE CITY — More than 4,000 votes later, Cheesecake Factory blew out the competition and won KSL.com’s poll for Utah’s best cheesecake.
The national chain beat out 18 other nominees by taking 50 percent of the votes. Taggart’s Grill came in second place with 9 percent of the votes and Gourmandise, with 8 percent, rounded out the top three.
Cheesecake Factory opened its first restaurant in 1978 in Beverly Hills, California. There are nearly 200 restaurants around the globe including two in Utah. Their menu includes 37 flavors of cheesecake, as well as other specialty and ice cream desserts.

According to Cheesecake.com, “cheese cake” may have been created in Greece thousands of years ago. Legend says cheesecake was served at the first Olympic games. It wasn’t until the 18th century that the modern incarnation of cheesecake began to take form, as European immigrants brought their recipes to America.Cheesecake Factory opened its first restaurant in Utah with their Murray location in 2007. In 2012, they opened their second location in Salt Lake City.
“90 percent of the people that come here, come for the cheesecake,” Jorge Coelho, assistant manager at the City Creek location said. "We have so many options and every six months we get a different cheesecake flavor. Every year, we have National Cheesecake Day and that’s when we present new flavors.”
