BONNERS FERRY, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say an arson fire set Thursday morning in three different places has destroyed a Catholic church in Bonners Ferry in northern Idaho.

Bonners Ferry Police Chief Vic Watson tells The Spokesman-Review (http://bit.ly/1VJoPP7) that the fire at St. Ann's Catholic Church could be related to vandalism that occurred at the church earlier this year.

Watson says a person of interest is in custody on an unrelated charge, but declined to provide details.

He says damage to the church is estimated at more than $1 million.

Father Carlos Perez says a statue of Jesus in an alcove basement was vandalized before the fire started.

Firefighters tore down the south wall and roof, and the walls around the main sanctuary collapsed just past noon.
