SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An airman from Hill Air Force Base has been charged with attempted murder for the second time in less than a year.

Daniel Eugene Clemons, 19, an airman 1st class with the 338th Fighter Wing, was charged Tuesday in the shooting of another man as he fled after a fight outside a Salt Lake City nightclub early Saturday. At the time, Clemons was free on bail after being charged in a November home-invasion shooting in Trenton, N.J., New Jersey prosecutors said.

According to Utah court documents, Clemons and fellow Airman 1st Class Jeremy David Crist were arguing with a group of other men when Clemons brandished a rifle. One of the other men grabbed the gun by the barrel and wrested it from Clemons' hands and threw it to the ground.

Police say Clemons picked up the gun as the other group fled and fired a shot, hitting a 22-year-old man.

Hill Air Force Base officials say Clemons was already scheduled for a disciplinary hearing regarding the New Jersey shooting.

Crist is charged with obstructing justice and failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop. Two other airmen face charges of attempted obstruction of justice, a third-degree felony.

It could not immediately be determined if Clemons or the other airmen had defense attorneys.
