OREM, Utah (AP) -- Inmates at Utah County Jail will prepare food for a Meals on Wheels program.
The Mountainland Association of Governments recently awarded its meals contract to the jail.
The food is prepared and given to seniors age 60 and up who are homebound or attend local senior centers.
Utah Valley Regional Medical Center had prepared the meals for more than 20 years. But when the hospital said the price might go up, the contract was put out for bid.
Scott McBeth, director of aging services for the association of governments, says there's no reason to be worried about inmates making the food for Meals on Wheels. He says they're prepared under intense supervision.
