OREM — Richie Stapler has a fear of guests coming to his house at the last minute after a cooking endeavour or another cause leaves it smelling bad.

Along with Bruna Lima and Brian Jones, Stapler created a smart air freshener that is gaining a lot of traction on Kickstarter.

Pura Scents is the world's first smart fragrance dispenser, Stapler said. The new device plugs into outlets and allows its user to control it through a free mobile application.

The dispensers house two cartridges that each last one month. Rather than being forced to waste much of the smell while leaving the house, Pura Scents can be shut off while in an empty home.

Stapler said when someone wants to come over at the last minute, but your house doesn't smell very good after cooking something, "you can override the system and release fragrance remotely, so by the time you get there, it smells really good."

Every month, Pura Scents owners will have a new fragrance cartridge sent to their home, whether it's the same one they've used before or one of the other scents the company offers.

Once the scents are running low, the app alerts its user so they can reorder it.

The company is also releasing a men's line with scents that have the ability to release pheromones in the event that its user has a hot date coming over.

The product also has a smart night light feature to help control the mood of the home. Users can choose from millions of colors and control the brightness of it.

"We just want to help people have a more enjoyable experience overall," Stapler said, adding that people can enable a lavender smell at night to help them sleep and a citrus smell in the morning to wake them up. A Pura Scents dispenser retails at $79.99, but it is currently discounted on a Kickstarter campaign* that has so far raised more than $51,000. Each month, subscribers will pay $3.99 for a new fragrance.

Following the Kickstarter campaign, Pura Scents can be ordered at www.purascents.com.
