Thousands of people left the comfort of air conditioning and headed into the heat to enjoy Fourth of July celebrations all around the state today.
It started up north with Ogden's Cherry Days. The parade featured all the classics: marching bands, fire engines and bagpipes. Kids lined the streets, grabbed for candy and waved to the passing parade entries. Jets from Hill Air Force Base flew over that and several other celebrations.
On base, there was a more somber bell ringing ceremony; a tribute to the men and women defending America.
In Kaysville, parade-goers cheered on local servicemen then scrambled to grab candy from KSL personalities Amanda Butterfield and Brooke Walker.
West Jordan's parade had balloons and sirens. And Provo's parade included bagpipes and marching bands, as well.
Jordan Park in Salt Lake hosted an old-fashioned Fourth of July.
Fireworks at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake are scheduled to start at 10 p.m., as are several other shows around the state.
