Fireworks concerns will have firefighters in sandy patrolling the streets this coming Independence Day weekend.

It's hard to be in stealth mode with a big, red fire truck, but firefighters will be out on the streets beginning Thursday, making sure illegal fireworks aren't in use.

They'll be paying special attention to the potentially hazardous Dimple Dell area.

"We're gonna get caught one day, and we're gonna be in trouble. We're gonna loose a house to a wildfire. That's why we're trying to at least let the citizens know that we're out and about," said Zach Robinson, spokesman for the Sandy Fire Department.

Robinson says the minimum fine will be $500. Given the weather, he says he'll be surprised if there isn't at least one fireworks-related fire in coming days.

In Sandy right now, there are no restrictions on use of legal fireworks, but firefighters are urging caution.

Firefighters plan to repeat their patrols on the upcoming Pioneer Day holiday.
