South Salt Lake police are searching for a man who robbed a Maverik Country Store.
Police say three men entered the convenience store at 2650 S. Main St. on Sunday. They say two of the men attempted to distract the clerk while the third went behind the counter and tried to open the cash register without success.
Surveillance video shows the relatively small man, with tattoos down both arms, trying to wrestle the ATM from its bolted-down footing. Gary Keller, with the South Salt Lake Police Department, said, "It certainly was humorous cause what's he gonna do with a 300- to 400-pound machine once he gets it loose."
The men left the store empty handed.
About 45 minutes later, the man who tried to steal the ATM came back to the store. He purchased a drink, and when the clerk opened the cash register, he reached over the counter and took some money.
He fled on foot. If you know anything about this case, you are asked to call the South Salt Lake police at (801)840-4000.
