SALT LAKE CITY — Apps are often designed to keep people using them for as long as possible. Basically, if you’re not staring at the screen of your device, then the app isn’t being used. But a free app developed in Utah called Time Machine is intended to inspire people to get away from their screen and participate in worthy causes.

According to co-founder Lindsay Hadley, Time Machine tracks users’ time as they do things like volunteer at a hospital or raise awareness for a charity by sharing an educational video. Each activity is worth points that qualify users to win prizes, like a VIP meet-and-greet with Imagine Dragons.

“There are over $75,000 worth of prizes to be won this month,” says Hadley. “They include thousands of meals from Costa Vida, Arvo watches, Jaybird headphones, Beacon Audio speakers, winning a trip to hang out with Steve Young at a Monday Night Football game.”

According to Hadley, Imagine Dragons have been generous in their support of the initiative. Hundreds of tickets to their show at the Energy Solutions Arena on July 28 will be given out as prizes to Time Machine users, as well as the grand prize of a meet-and-greet with the band.

Charitable partnerships secured by Time Machine include The Tyler Robinson Foundation, The Progeria Research Foundation, and Steve Young’s Forever Young Foundation.

“Time is our most precious resource, but most of us just follow people instead of having our own meaningful experiences,” says Hadley. “We want people to do inspiring things and support causes, online and beyond the screen.”

Time Machine is currently available on iOS and coming soon to Android. For more information, visit timemachine.do.
