FARMINGTON — A former corrections officer at the Davis County Jail has pleaded not guilty to engaging in sexual relations with an inmate.

Michael David Mueller, 52, of Layton, who waived a preliminary hearing in May, entered the plea Wednesday. He was charged on Jan. 5 in 2nd District Court with custodial sexual relations, a third-degree felony.

A female inmate at the jail reported that she performed a sex act on Mueller in September at the jail, according to charging documents. He resigned from the jail that same month, the Davis County Sheriff's Office said.

Mueller will next appear in court for a pretrial conference in July.
