SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A lawsuit has been filed in 3rd District Court challenging the constitutionality of a 14-part education omnibus bill.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday by more than three dozen lawmakers and education officials.

It says legislators violated the state constitution when they wrapped 14 separate bills into one. Bills are supposed to be limited to one subject. Lawmakers say the bill does address one subject: education.

Janet Jenson, an attorney for the plaintiffs, says lawmakers violated the spirit of the law with the omnibus bill. Several bills had already been defeated when they were brought back to life in the omnibus education bill.
