Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank says it would. He told the city council activity at the park makes a difference. It does during the Farmers' Market on Saturdays during the summer.
The chief is pitching the idea of closing the park at 11 p.m. rather than at dusk.
There's already interest in holding events at the park later in the evening. One group wants to hold a barbecue there next month. And the Salt Lake Tribune reports conventions have eyed Pioneer Park as well.
A formal vote won't come until next month, but council members appear to have few reservations.
