ST. GEORGE — A man is facing 17 assault, weapon, burglary and witness tampering charges after his involvement in a shooting Christmas Day.
Eldrick Kendrell Anthony, 31, entered a residence near 1000 North 1725 West in St. George by force while holding a handgun after the homeowner asked him to leave the property, Jason Jarvie with the Washington County Drug Task Force said in a probable cause statement.
Rather than fleeing, Anthony followed the homeowner into the house while holding the gun. An argument ensued, and Anthony pointed the loaded gun at two adult males inside the house, Jarvie said.
The argument continued in the parking lot where the two men attempted to get Anthony to leave the residence, and Anthony pointed the gun at other adults and seven juveniles aged 3 to 14. He then shot one round at the two adult males, Jarvie said.
Anthony threatened the adults, claiming he had police contacts he would use against them, and the adults didn’t contact the police in fear of Anthony’s threat, Jarvie said.
Anthony was booked into the Washington County Correctional Facility Jan. 2 without bail and is currently incarcerated.
On Dec. 31, Anthony was arrested on a second-degree felony charge of being a restricted person in possession of a firearm and third-degree felony charges of obstruction of justice and child abuse-abandonment, according to the online booking sheets of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
When Anthony was incarcerated New Year’s Eve, the victims in the shooting came forward to positively identify him, Jarvie said.
Anthony faces 11 third-degree felony charges of aggravated assault with the use of a weapon, three third-degree felony charges of witness tampering, a third-degree felony charge of discharging a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm within city limits, according to the probable cause statement.
Anthony has a previous criminal record involving drug-related distribution and assault charges.
