ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- The interim leader at Dixie State College says the school's future should include more four-year degrees and a shift toward university status.
Stephen Nadauld says southern Utah's population growth will increase the need for more educational opportunities.
He says a proposal to merge with the University of Utah still is a long way from reality -- only at step two of a 10-step process.
There was a plan to have the affiliation in place by fall, adding 20 degrees at the St. George campus. But that timetable won't work.
Nadauld says Dixie State still needs a "Plan B" so it can grow independently. He was appointed interim president in March, following the sudden resignation of Lee Caldwell.
