(KSL News) -- Saying Salt Lake Real, is a "tremendous asset", Mayor Rocky Anderson has an idea for a stadium.

In a letter to State and local leaders, along with the team's ownership, the Mayor suggests a new Major League Soccer Stadium at the Utah Fairpark.

Here's part of his proposal:

Plan for RSL Stadium at Utah Fairpark

State lease Fairpark for 50 years or Sell Fairpark and buy back in 50 years - County provide $17.5 million from TRT

  • Salt Lake City establish new tax increment
  • RSL maintain and upkeep Fairpark
  • Make all facilities available for State Fair
  • Repay TRT funds over 17 1/2 years

The State would lease the Fairpark to R-S-L, for 50 years, or sell it to R-S-L and buy it back after 50 years. The County would provide 17.5 million dollars from transient room taxes, and Salt Lake City would establish a tax increment.

In return, Real would maintain and upkeep the park. They would also make facilities, including the stadium, available for the annual Utah State Fair. They would also repay the transient room tax funds over 17 ½ years.
