The officials say Saturday's airstrikes were launched under the authority to support humanitarian efforts in Iraq and to protect U.S. personnel and facilities. The Islamic State group captured the dam earlier this month.
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Residents in the St. Louis suburb where a black teenager was shot to death by a white police officer a week ago are being told they won't be allowed on the streets after midnight. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry says he stands by his veto and calls the indictment against him outrageous and an abuse of power. Perry made the comments at a news conference this afternoon, a day after a grand jury indicted the Republican on two felony counts of abuse of power for making good on a veto threat. Perry dismissed the charges as nakedly political.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Four young children who died last month in a fast-moving blaze that engulfed at least 10 Philadelphia row houses are being remembered today. The funeral service was held at Divine Mercy Parish in Philadelphia. It had been delayed to allow time for the children's Liberian grandparents to attend. Fire officials say an investigation couldn't determine the exact cause.
