Tom Callan reportingAfter repeated tragedies on campuses across the nation, some students at the University of Utah say it is time for the school to use text messaging during an emergency.

One student KSL Newsradio spoke to says he feels a text-message warning is the fastest way to reach everyone. "Everyone has your cell phone. Everyone usually has the cell phone on," he said.

But text messaging about a campus threat would exclude this student. "If I had a cell phone, I would sign up for it. I don't, so it wouldn't affect me," he said.

Another student likes the idea but doesn't want to receive a lot of junk. "I never sign up for text messages. I don't want ads on my phone," she said.

One administrator worries text messaging could cost too much, about $80,000 a year.
