Randall Jeppesen reportingBYU police are trying to get the word out to students to be careful as more head to the mountains as the weather gets warmer.
As the snow melts, the mountains are turning green. BYU Police Lt. Arnold Lemmon says students start to flock to the hills, and then someone gets hurt.
"It seems like it's on an annual basis. We either get a student or students seriously injured, or loss of life. And we've already had that this school year," he said.
He's referring to student Camille Cleverly, who died after falling off a cliff last fall.
"Stick to the trails. And anytime you start up the face of one of these mountains, in many cases suddenly you find yourself cliffed-out," he said.
He's stressing students should not hike alone, should stay on the trails, take emergency food and clothing, and have a charged cell phone.
