MONA, Juab County — A single car accident involving four people on I-15 has left the driver dead and others injured, police said.

The accident, which occurred near mile marker 240 around 11 a.m. Friday, was the result of a blown tire that caused the vehicle to roll several times, police said.

Evangelina Corral, 55, was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer, traveling southbound when the tire blew. The car swerved, rotated clockwise and went off the right side of the road, rolling several times. She was not wearing a seat belt and sustained injuries from being thrown from the vehicle. CPR was performed on scene, and she was transported to Central Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Her daughter, Roxanna Corral, 25, who was not wearing a seat belt, and sustained injuries to her pelvis. She is in stable condition. Yessenia Corral, another family member, did not sustain any major injury despite not wearing a seat belt and being thrown from the vehicle. Janexis Corral, 7, was in a booster seat with a seat belt. She did not appear to be injured, but she will be kept overnight at Primary Children's Hospital for overnight observation, police said.

All vehicle occupants are residents of Mesa, Arizona. Southbound I-15 was closed while the helicopter landed to airlift Janexis to Primary Children's, but all lanes are now open.

"It is probable that the proper use of seat belts could have prevented this tragic fatality," the Utah Highway Patrol said in a written statement. "All occupants in vehicles are reminded that Utah law requires seat belts be worn at all times whenever a vehicle is in motion. Statistically, occupants are far less likely to be injured or killed in any crash when seat belts and car seats are properly used."
