SALT LAKE CITY — Police from several agencies are trying to track down whoever is responsible for a string of business robberies in the Salt Lake Valley.

They say three or four robberies within 12 hours could be connected based on the suspect description, but investigators are reviewing video to make sure.

Police with K-9s searched through the night for a man matching the robber's description — a man wearing a black mask and red jacket or sweatshirt — but did not find any suspects.

Salt Lake City police received a call about a robbery at a Pizza Hut at 753 E. 2100 South around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. About an hour later, Unified police received a robbery call from a 7-Eleven at 904 E. 3900 South in the Millcreek area. Then just after midnight, a man showed up at a 7-Eleven on 2100 South.

“He entered, pointed a hand gun, demanded cash, which he had the clerk put in a black plastic garbage bag. Then he demanded the clerk’s wallet and he left on foot,” said Lt. Craig Gleason with the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Someone also robbed the smoke shop at 3300 South and 2300 East around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, but police don't know if that one is connected.

No one was injured in any of the crimes, which Gleason said obviously are not worth it.

“As far as profit goes, you’re talking about going to prison for some years. It’s a robbery. The kind of cash you get from a 7-Eleven — I just don’t understand the math people are doing in their head. Why is that worth it?” he said.

Investigators are hoping to release surveillance video later Wednesday.
