THE MARVEL UNIVERSE — The newest installment of the X-Men franchise, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” is just a couple of weeks away, but some casting news for future films has already released.
“X-Men” producer Laura Shuler Donner confirmed during a red carpet interview with Total Film that Channing Tatum will play Gambit in the X-Men universe.
“He’s a rogue,” Shuler Donner said. “ Channing, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau (Gambit). And he can handle the action. We all know that. And he’s got a really good heart."
Tatum has said in the past that he’d love to play Gambit, but that was just hopeful thinking until now.
Taylor Kitsch played Gambit in the 2009 film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which is part of the same universe as the recent X-Men films like “X-Men: First Class” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Kitsch is apparently out and Tatum is in.
No Gambit films are in the works, but it’s likely that Tatum will star as the card-throwing Cajun in the next installment of the franchise, “X-Men: Apocalypse” in 2016.
