Carole Mikita reporting Graduating University of Utah medical students discovered today exactly where they will perform their residencies.
During "Match Day," the students opened envelopes revealing which program had matched up with them.
Medical students create lists of residency programs to pursue after graduation. Based on interviews, each program then selects the student found most suitable.
But, what if your significant other is also graduating from medical school? Well, medical schools have a program for that. The couple applies together in the same process, but it is more difficult to find a residency this way.

Christina Sadler and Wyatt Rivas just found out where they will spend the next three years of their lives together. Christina said, "We're getting married on Memorial Day, which is two days after graduation. So, [it's] really important for us to match together." Wyatt said, "[We're] going to Bay State. It was way on top of our list. So I don't know. We couldn't be happier right now. Actually, it's awesome."
David Bjorkman, Dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine, said, "They don't know which on that list they're going to until this very minute, and so that's why they're so excited, and that's why they're so nervous, and that's why there are a lot of big smiles today."
For Christina and Wyatt, who met in medical school and are now graduating together, the application process proved more difficult. They chose the dual match option, applied together, and crossed their fingers, hoping to find a residency program that would accept them both. Christina said, "If we hadn't matched together, neither one of us would have matched, and we'd have to reapply next year. So, we're really excited that we matched so that we can have a job next year."

Wyatt announces Bay State in front of the map. And it looks like, for now, Bay State in Massachusetts turned out to be a match made in heaven.
Wyatt says he hopes to work with Christina during their residency, although she will specialize in pediatrics while he will maintain the emergency room.
