(KSL News) An innovative program is bringing new money into Utah classrooms and cheers from students who benefit.

Fifth graders at Lincoln Elementary opened a box of books their teacher requested on the Web site "Donors Choose." Teachers submit project proposals and ordinary citizens can donate any amount to help the teachers. In just the last few months, Donors Choose has raised nearly $100,000 for Utah students and funded 220 classroom projects.

Julianne Paul, a teacher at Lincoln Elementary, said, "What's right for my classroom is what's right for the classroom down the hallway. So it was wonderful to go, 'This is what we need' and get it."

Perhaps not surprisingly, more Utah teachers are using this Web site than teachers in any other state. So far, donated money for our classrooms has come from all over the country.
