Mary Richards reporting

A Murray High School student may have been the favorite on "American Idol" before last night, but that might be tough to say this morning.

David Archuleta was nervous before he started singing, and it showed. The judges noticed the lyrics slip.

"That was a mess," Simon Cowell told Archuleta.

But Paula Abdul tried to make him feel better. "You know what? This wasn't your best week, but David, you are a frontrunner. You're a strong person in this competition," she said.

We'll see if he's eliminated tonight.
