SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State lawmakers have passed a bill that's intended to crack down on child abandonment in the polygamous communities of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz.

A bill Gov. Jon Huntsman is expected to sign into law would make child abandonment a form of child abuse.

The bill is in response to teenagers known as "The Lost Boys," who have been kicked out of their communities.

Advocates say there are hundreds of teens who have either run away or been kicked out of the polygamous sect for a host of reasons, such as watching movies, kissing someone or wearing shirt sleeves too short. Some left on their own, rather than live by the church's strict codes of conduct.
