SALT LAKE CITY — Scenic drives through the snowy mountains of Utah may be on the table again this Christmas season.
According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of gas dropped 4 cents from last week to $2.89 across the United States, the cheapest December gas prices since 2020. Utah gas was even cheaper, with gas stations boasting an average of $2.76, an 11 cent drop from last week.
Across the state, AAA reported that Provo-Orem has the cheapest gas prices at $2.62 per gallon. Ogden and Salt Lake City prices were similar at $2.66 per gallon, with St. George driving up the state's average at $3.04 per gallon.
While Hawaii's average gas prices remained at $4.43 per gallon, the highest in the nation, AAA found that Oklahoma's gas prices went down to just $2.34 per gallon, making their state's average the lowest in the nation.
The Energy Information Administration released data showing gasoline demand increasing from 8.45 million barrels per day last week to 9.07 barrels per day. Additionally, the total gasoline supply increased from 220.8 million barrels to 225.6 million, with gasoline production rising to 9.6 million barrels per day.
