Marc Giauque reporting A turn in the weather has Salt Lake County crews out preparing for spring runoff.
No one is ready to predict just how that runoff will come. Right now, you can walk across parts of the channel in places like Big Cottonwood Creek, but Salt Lake County Public Works engineer Neil Stack says that will change in coming weeks.
"We're into our full mode of hooking and snagging, making sure that we don't have artificial choke points. In other words, we do have any floating trees; get down to any of the culverts or any of the bridge structures," Stack said.
He says right now snow above county rivers and streams is an average of 136 percent above normal. At lower and mid-elevations it's at 167 percent.
