WASHINGTON — The body of a 64-year-old woman found in the Virgin River has been identified by police.
Washington City Police found the body of Rockville resident Mary Soper in the Virgin River near Washington City Sept. 12.
Police said they believe Soper's body floated 30 miles down the river before it was discovered. She was reported missing two days before the discovery was made.
Sgt. Garen Brecke with the Springdale Police Department said foul play was not suspected.
"The medical examiner identified that there was nothing suspicious with the death," Brecke said.
"She was an avid walker," Brecke said. "The family wasn't able to find her the day she was reported missing."
Police are waiting for the medical examiner to release information on an exact cause of death.
