LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- A marriage between the College of Eastern Utah and Utah State University seems unlikely this year.
A draft bill to turn the Price school into a Utah State campus was circulated last week at the Capitol by Senate Minority Leader Mike Dmitrich, D-Price, but never made public.
It's unclear if the bill will get a hearing. "It seems to me that this bill is going to die. The momentum has slowed," said Michael Kennedy, in charge of Utah State's federal and state relations.
A community meeting Tuesday in Price failed to answer many questions raised by the proposed merger, Kennedy said.
Some Eastern Utah faculty expressed concerns.
About 20 community leaders in Price approached Dmitrich about a merger months ago, Kennedy said. A merger could allow Utah State to expand offerings at the Price campus by adding degree programs there.
Utah State President Stan Albrecht said he's open to the proposal if the schools and their communities benefit.
