Marc Giauque reportingReports that a woman with Utah ties was arrested and roughed up in Saudi Arabia are generating strong reaction. She was arrested for being in public with a man who wasn't her husband.

The woman, a business owner and mother of three, tells "The Times" that she was sitting with a colleague at a Starbucks in Riyadh because the power in her business building had gone out.

Dr. Ibrahim Karawan of the Middle East Center at the University of Utah thinks the case will raise indignation, even in parts of Saudi Arabia. "If Saudi Arabia had enemies who would want to tarnish its image, they wouldn't have done better than what this episode has done."

The woman reportedly grew up in Salt Lake City. Some online bloggers claim she should have known the religious traditions in the country and should have followed them.

According to "The Times", she spent a day in prison and was forced to sign false confessions.
