SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A jury ordered the death penalty for a man convicted of killing a 72-year-old woman in her home in 2004.
The jury in 3rd District Court in Salt Lake County took less than four hours Friday to decide that Floyd Maestas will be sentenced to death.
Before the deliberations, Maestas told jurors that he wasn't guilty of Donna Bott's death.
He also told the judge that he didn't want his attorneys to call witnesses who would talk about his chaotic childhood, abuse and low IQ.
Prosecutor Kent Morgan says Maestas has a 30-year criminal record. He says Bott, the victim, was stomped, stabbed and choked.
Maestas was convicted last week.
