SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The city of Holladay is in contract negotiations with the Salt Lake County sheriff's office for law enforcement services. But the city has also commissioned a $30,000 study to decide if it should create a new police department.

Holladay is one of four Salt Lake County cities that have a contract with the sheriff's office.

Mayor Dennis Webb says in addition to looking at the possibility of forming its own police department, Holladay might talk about joining with nearby cities, such as Cottonwood Heights, for a unified police agency.

He says Holladay hasn't had problems with the sheriff's office, but city leaders are looking for ways to get the best public service.
