SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A new veterans nursing home for Weber County is a step closer to becoming a reality.
The House voted Thursday to spend nearly $20 million on a nursing home for veterans. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Brad Dee, R-Ogden.
Utah only has one veterans' nursing home and it is in Salt Lake City. State officials say a nursing home in Ogden will alleviate overcrowding and the wait list for treatment at the Salt Lake City facility.
In Gov. Jon Huntsman's State of the State address Tuesday, funding for the veterans home was one of the few items he specifically demanded lawmakers agree to.
It wasn't a tough sell. House Bill 129 passed in the House 75-0. It is also expected to pass unanimously in the Senate.
