SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The National Weather Service and Utah's Avalanche Center have issued warnings for a weekend storm which promises lots of new snow and increased avalanche danger.
Weather forecasters say the storm should hit northern Utah late tonight and continue across the state through Sunday.
Statewide up to two feet of new snow is expected with the greatest accumulation predicted for the high mountains of the southwest.
Avalanche forecasters say slides could break out in new snow or in deeper weak layers of the snowpack at all elevations.
Backcountry travelers are encouraged to carry avalanche rescue gear, including beacons, shovels and probes.
