FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- Davis County prosecutors are dropping charges against a Hill Air Force Base employee who crafted more than 40 pipe bombs found stashed behind two area businesses.

The county says it will dismiss its case in lieu of federal charges filed against Raymond Bradley Parr in U.S. District Court Dec. 20.

The federal charges carry stiffer potential penalties if Parr is convicted.

Forty bombs stolen from a Clearfield storage unit owned by Parr were found behind a Layton car wash on Sept. 5. Five days later at least four more bombs were found behind a Roy convenience store.

Federal prosecutors have charged Parr with one count of possessing improvised explosives devices or bombs and one count of storing explosive material in a manner not in conformity with regulations.

An initial appearance is scheduled for Jan. 18.
