SALT LAKE CITY -- Fluffy the dog could make his owners famous. He's close to winning them a trip to New York because of his unique skills.

Don't let the name fool you -- Fluffy is a Doberman Pinscher. But he does have a sweet talent.

What does Fluffy have that other dogs don't? An impressive singing voice.

Fluffy's owner Tommy of Salt Lake City said he discovered this talent by accident. "I wanted to teach him to howl," he said. "I always wanted a dog that would howl."

Instead, Fluffy started making a different noise -- a long, drawn-out kind of howl with surprising tonal quality.

"We went on YouTube and went through every video of a singing dog, and we think he is the greatest singing dog in the world," Tommy said.

When Tommy heard about the TODAY Show's Top Dog contest, he sent in his video. It was enough to impress the anchors. Now Fluffy is a finalist, up against a Pekinese that can do math.

Fluffy's talent could win Tommy a trip to New York to be on the TODAY Show live for the finals.

"I have never been to New York, and it would be especially strange to go with the dog," Tommy said.

If they don't win, Tommy says it's OK. After all, Fluffy is still a pretty special dog to him.

You can vote for Fluffy online at the TODAY Show website HERE.

Fluffy and Tommy find out Thursday if they win the trip to New York for the finals. If they win the finals, the grand prize is a trip to Atlanta.
