FAIRVIEW — Additional charges have been filed against the so-called mountain man, a survivalist accused of breaking into cabins and evading law enforcement for years.
According to an arrest warrant filed in Iron County last week, Troy Knapp, 45, is charged with burglary and theft in connection with four burglaries between 2009 and 2011 at cabins on Summit Mountain and Cedar Mountain.
Knapp already faces similar charges in Kane and Garfield counties. Investigators say Knapp would eat food, drink beer and steal valuables, including weapons, during the burglaries.
Authorities say Knapp is armed and dangerous. He has steadily been moving north through back country wilderness, leaving behind makeshift camps and caches of food and weapons.
He was last spotted on Oct. 1 by a surveillance camera in Sanpete County. The video showed Knapp outside a cabin using binoculars, apparently looking for an alarm system. He also waved his arms, possibly checking for a motion sensor, before moving out of frame.
Authorities then conducted an intensive search for Knapp, but were unsuccessful in locating him.
